Music, Stories and a Family Connection at Pearce's Creek Hall

Last weekend, Jasmine and I had the pleasure of playing at the beautiful Pearce's Creek Hall, and it turned out to be one of those shows that was about much more than just the music.
The afternoon kicked off with a fantastic set from Katie Brooke, who shared some of her original country songs and had the crowd hooked from the start. We followed with our own set, mixing music, stories and a few laughs along the way.

What made this show particularly special for me was the hall's connection to my own family history.
My great-grandfather, Bertram Trimble, was local to the area and spent plenty of time at Pearce's Creek Hall over the years. In fact, it was at an event in this very hall that he met the young woman who would later become my great-grandmother.
I also shared a bit of Bertram's story during the show. He was determined to serve his country and famously lied about his age to enlist in World War I because he was too young. Then years later, he managed to do the exact opposite and lied about his age again to enlist in World War II because he was considered too old. His name is on the Honour Roll ( you can see it a little in the photo below).
It's amazing to think that generations later I was standing in the same hall, sharing songs and stories with another room full of people.
After all the rain we've had lately, the weather even put on a bit of a show for us, with the sun making a welcome appearance for a little while.
A huge thank you to the wonderful committee at Pearce's Creek Hall, especially Simon, who works incredibly hard to promote events, support live music and look after every artist who comes through the doors. Make sure you sign up to their Mailing List and check out the amazing artists who come through.
Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped make the day happen, to Katie Brooke, and to everyone who came along and shared the afternoon with us.
We grabbed some video of the event so we'll aim to get that up to share with you soon.
These little community halls are such special places, and we're always grateful to be invited to be part of them.
